Mama Glow Obsession: Cocovít Coconut Oil

Mama Glow | March 11, 2018

Many women have to confront their current beauty regimens when they become pregnant and start using better products. One of our favorite multi-purpose products is coconut oil for internal and external health and we are obsessed with Cocovít, a new brand of beautifully packaged organic and fair trade certified coconut oil.

Rikita Kapadia, founder of Cocovít launched the company, paying homage to her Indian roots. The tradition of using coconut oil originated in India over 5,000 years ago. “I wanted to create a multipurpose product that had the power to naturally nurture skin, hair and health”, says Rikita. The coconut has become increasingly popular in the beauty space recent years from make up remover, to hair conditioner, coconut is so versatile. We love that it is naturally antibacterial, anti-fungal and antimicrobial, making it liquid protection and nourishment at the same time. According to Rikita “Cocovít Coconut Oil is a multipurpose beauty solution, and is suitable for all ages, skin and hair types”.

Cocovít harvests fresh organic coconuts from an eco-reserve in Southern India, producing a pure and exceptionally potent form of coconut oil. By sourcing from this farm they have provided jobs for 40 families who were previously living below the  poverty line. This is part of the mission behind the brand, to give back to the community the product is sourced from. Cocovít is USDA Organic and Fair Trade Certified. “Using a heatless extraction process, we are able to maximize nutrient and enzyme potency by leaving the oil raw & untouched.” adds Rikita. With many of the commercial coconut oils being cold or expeller-pressed, heat vaporizes some of the vital nutrients in the processing making them less effective.

Rikita adds, “If you are using coconut oil to cook then an unrefined, virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil is perfect since you will be applying heat to it anyways. However, if you are applying it to your or you baby’s skin you want to use a raw, pure coconut oil which has 100% of the nutrients and enzymes intact.” And we couldn’t agree more.

For expectant mamas coconut oil is a must have in your prenatal pantry. The lauric acid supports healthy metabolism and boosts immune function, (as the immune system is slightly suppressed during pregnancy) protecting both the mother and baby. It is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial. It’s a cure all! Loaded with antioxidants, lauric acid, capric acid, and caprylic acid, medium-chain fatty acids. Rikita wants her give her customers the reassurance that the ingredients in Cocovit products are free of pesticides or fertilizers and have not been genetically modified. With 6 different products to choose from including: hydro-mist, bath salts and a lip balm, there is something for everyone!
