Mama Glow Founder Latham Thomas Joins Perelel Health’s Expert Panel in Recent Expansion

When it comes to pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood, optimal nutrition is essential. As the body undergoes significant change, subsequent changes in nutritional demands necessitate a careful selection of vitamins and supplements to support a healthy pregnancy. The founders of leading women’s health company Perelel not only understand the importance of choosing the right brand, but they also honor the significance of abandoning a one-size-fits all approach to prenatal nutrition. One of their strategies for heightening awareness and improving nutritional support involves consulting their Perelel Panel, a group of movers and shakers within the world of nutrition and maternal health. We are pleased to announce that our very own Latham Thomas has joined the panel in support of Perelel’s efforts.

The addition of Latham to the panel underscores Perelel’s commitment to embracing comprehensive approaches in their support of women and birthing people. The Perelel Panel consists of experts from disparate backgrounds and disciplines—world class doctors, nutritionists, acupuncturists, herbalists, dietitians, and more. Latham’s background in birth work adds a fresh perspective that deviates from narrowly clinical approaches to maternity care.

It’s important to note that her identity as a doula is one among many backgrounds she brings to Perelel. In addition to being the founder of Mama Glow and the Mama Glow Foundation, Latham is a distinguished women’s health expert, Black maternal health advocate, entrepreneur, Ivy League professor, speaker, and best-selling author.

Her brand and brain-child Mama Glow is a global maternal health and premiere education platform serving birthing people along the childbearing continuum. The Mama Glow Doula Homeschool Professional Training Program, which stands as the culmination of her teachings within the sphere of birth work, empowers birth workers around the world through workforce development. Mama Glow supports families through the fertility period, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, offering personalized guidance with their doula services and works with insurance companies and hospital systems to improve the experience of maternity care. Since 2018, Mama Glow has trained over 3000 doulas globally.

The common thread among her extensive experience is the element of education and mentorship.

In 2022, Latham was appointed as a Visiting Professor of the Practice of Gender and Sexuality Studies at the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women at Brown University. The Mama Glow Professional Doula Training program is embedded as a course at Brown, marking a historic first for an Ivy League university.

“I find myself drawn to Perelel’s desire to support folks as they journey through their reproductive lives. Perelel is all about creating solutions and we are united by the overarching understanding that health inequalities do not have to persist. Education surrounding nutrition is one important aspect of birth work, and joining the Perelel Panel is a great way to imbue my years of expertise into a brand that I truly believe in,” said Latham Thomas. “I look forward to working together to address maternal health and health equity in our communities. I know we will partner on education and unique experiences that can help bridge knowledge gaps and drive conversation that can lead to policy change. Together, we can nourish our communities,” she added.

Latham’s introduction comes at a particularly momentous time for the brand. Perelel recently pledged $10 million to Magee-Womens Research Institute and Good+ Foundation to fund women’s health research and address longstanding gaps in maternal healthcare. By joining forces, Perelel and Latham Thomas are underscoring the necessity of collaboration in the fight to improve realities for mothers and birthing people everywhere.
