Biologica Founder Liz Zwillinger on the Case for Stage-Specific Hormonal Health

The female body is in constant dialogue with time, undergoing real, cyclical changes that are too often reduced to fitting into the rigid ideas of “normal” or “abnormal.” BIOLOGICA, a new women’s health company focused on stage-specific hormonal wellness, is committed to addressing the way women’s hormonal needs change over the life course — from the reproductive years through perimenopause and into the postmenopausal period. Co-founded by Liz Zwillinger and Joey Zwillinger, the brand is improving the care available to women and birthing people everywhere with an intentional approach that not only acknowledges the nuances of experiencing discomfort and change during a time of evolution, but also honors the reality that change happens in stages along the reproductive life course and our needs are different at every juncture.

We spoke with Liz Zwillinger about the significance of “stage-specific” hormonal health for maturing women and how she has designed not only a brand ethos around it, but also product based solutions. Offering three targeted formulas, BIOLOGICA is a product of what happens when dissatisfaction meets resolve and innovation. “I was diagnosed with PCOS in my teens and had terrible irritability and moodiness from PMS for my entire adult life,” says Liz. “As I entered my 40s and started to really feel the symptoms of aging, I dipped my toe into the wellness world and was disappointed by what I found.” She explored a barrage of products that either failed to acknowledge the diversity of womanhood and the embodied changes across our lifespans, or did not acknowledge the elephant in the room – that hormones largely shape our experience of health and wellness. Rather than understandably retreating due to a sense of paralysis, Zwillinger enabled her disappointment to galvanize her.

Liz Zwillinger’s realization would serve as the foundational principle of her brand. BIOLOGICA, as the brand is aptly named, would acknowledge hormones as not mere contributors to mood—but as drivers of one’s total wellness, overall. She would challenge the market in myriad ways, and at every level. At BIOLOGICA, her team works exclusively with experts in nutrition and women’s health to carefully research and select every ingredient. “Only those backed by strong clinical studies on women made the cut and we used them in the exact amounts shown to be effective. In a space full of shortcuts and hype, we chose to do things differently—putting integrity and impact first.”

BIOLOGICA currently offers three distinct formulas, each containing ingredients that align with their findings on the hormonal transitions accompanying the specific stage. And each has a distinct flavor profile that makes embracing daily supplementation very easy, conveniently packaged in individual sachets. All you have to do is simply add water to the powder formula, stir and sip. No more swallowing horse pills! Primary Essentials is for women in their 20-40s and helps with cycle support, PMS relief, mood, digestion, and skin radiance. Midlife Essentials are for women 40-55 years of age and promotes emotional balance, supports sleep, sharpens focus and cognitive clarity. The Postmenopause Essentials formula is for women past the 50 year threshold, and supports lean muscle mass, heart & bone health, skin radiance, cellular vitality, digestion. All three of the formulas support energy metabolism.

As far as honing in on which stage one could identify with most, Founder Zwillinger encourages consumers with a message that sits at the heart of the brand. “We encourage women to listen to their symptoms and patterns rather than labels or age. Your menstrual cycle is one of the most powerful tools you have — it’s a real-time window into stress, hormone balance, and overall wellbeing. Paying attention to changes in cycle regularity, energy, sleep, mood, or how your body responds before and after your cycle can be more informative than any single definition of a “stage.”

Yet still, their formulas account for life’s nuances, allowing consumers to choose based on symptomatology. “When in doubt, Primary Essentials are designed to cover foundational needs during the reproductive years, while Midlife is often the better fit if you’re noticing a change in your periods and emerging shifts like brain fog, irritability, or disrupted sleep. Our bodies are meant to change over time, but feeling off doesn’t have to be the default. The goal is to support what your body is asking for now, which looks different for every woman.”
