An Agni Postnatal Journey – Harnessing the Healing Power of Nutrition

Alicia Lue | July 11, 2022

In many parts of the world, taking special care of the body after giving birth is a ritual almost as sacred and cherished as giving birth itself. In China and India, postpartum confinement periods center mothers’ needs for healing through rest and recovery. In the Caribbean and many parts of Africa, new mothers draw on the ancestral power of herbal remedies to replenish and restore whole wellbeing in the 4th trimester.

While harnessing the power of nutrition to support healing and recovery during the postpartum period is not a new phenomenon, Agni makes it easier than it’s ever been. Agni is a women-led food healing company in Berkeley, CA that creates delicious, nutrient-rich cookies, teas, and seasonings to support women’s health. Developed with their Medical Advisory Board using 100% natural ingredients and a holistic, inclusive food healing approach, Agni’s healing foods are specifically designed to support women with postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, hormone balance, conception, and pregnancy.

Each curated box like the Mama  Box contains just the right amount of nutrient-rich treats made from only the best ingredients as selected by a team of medical and nutrition  experts. From cookies that promote milk production to a special tea blend for better sleep, Agni knows new moms need all the help they can get.

_______________

Today we are speaking with Mama Glow Doula, and Mychel Scott who shares her Agni experience.

Mama Glow: Where are you in your journey?

Mychel Scott:I am currently in my postpartum period. Some may consider this “late” postpartum.

MG:What has been the most challenging part of your journey?

MS: The biggest challenge for me has been admitting that I am in need of support, which has led to extreme burnout. Burnout can be really draining and is exacerbated by my lack of support. When I first gave birth to my son, I was alone. I didn’t have the community support I needed. As a result of not reaching out for support, I experienced Postpartum Depression (PPD), developed mastitis, which is inflammation of breast tissue that sometimes involves an infection. I also suffered from nutrition deficiency as well, ALL while trying to navigate motherhood as a new mama.

MG: How does Agni help you to prioritize self-care?

MS: I find space for it! Sometimes my self-care regimen happens when my son is resting but oftentimes it happens while my son is crawling all over me. He has definitely had crumbs in his hair from me eating my Agni cookies while holding him.

MG: Which box(es) are you currently enjoying?

MS: I am currently enjoying The Mama Box.  The Nori flakes have become a necessity for every single meal. I admittedly do not measure. I just shake, shake, shake until I feel satisfied. This is great because I am getting the minerals I need to replenish my body. And I do feel satisfied after each meal and snack!

MG: What differences have you noticed since you’ve started using Agni products?

MS: I have noticed my appetite return since I started the Agni Mama Box. My train of thought has been more fluid, it’s become much easier to address issue and release them. I have also become in tune with my menstrual cycle (meaning I can sense when a flow is coming on which has made free-flowing more empowering for me). I’ve also noticed that my depression has decreased and my mood has become more stabilized.

MG: What are you enjoying most about the nourishing boxes you are receiving?

MS: I enjoy the opportunity to indulge in health and wellness without the guilt. All of the ingredients are plant-based and healthy. Instead of taking supplements, I am eating food that helps support the life phase I am currently in. I also appreciate the time and effort that goes into the packaging design, and the selection of ingredients.

MG: How does Agni help you slow down?

MS: The Tulsi Cinnamon Tea with all of its goodness is a pause/reset super button. I press this button often.

MG: How do you create a safe space for yourself?

MS: Doulas need to be mothered too so I reach out to my community when I need that safe space.
