Karolina Kurkova was one of the youngest supermodels to ever appear on the cover of Vogue. She’s worked as a Victoria’s Secret Angel and has starred in campaigns for brands like Gucci, Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and more. The Czech supermodel mama is also an entrepreneur, having founded a children’s wellness brand, Gryph + IvyRose. Now, the mother of two is teaming up with Cybex, the world’s leading high-end child car seat brand, to give modern parents a timeless and classic line that features everything from baby carriers to car seats and strollers.
Each new product created as part of the collaboration features a design that was worked on closely by both Kurkova and Cybex’s team. Speaking at the launch for the new collaborative collection at 10 Corso Como in New York City on February 28, Kurkova shared, “I had the opportunity to create something for kids, for parents… “ She goes on to discuss her secret ingredient when it came to designing: Love. “I wanted ‘love’ to be included in all the designs,” she says. “I wanted people to look at [the products] and feel fun, love, and personality.”
For Kurkova, addressing the issue of plastic waste was also important. “Can we use recycled materials?” she asked herself in putting pen to paper. Today, each product created as part of the partnership uses up to 30 recycled water bottles. As Kurkova points out, creating sustainable products is “important for the future of our planet and for our kids.” What’s more is that the collection now includes the only car seat in the world that fully reclines, which supports infants at various stages of development. “Cybex is innovative,” Kurkova shares. “With our car seat, [your baby] gets to lay down and change positions.”
Both Kurkova and Martin Pos, the founder of Cybex, explain that their partnership came as a result of aligning parenting philosophies. Pos and Kurkova met in a Cybex store in Germany with both their families. “… we liked each other from the beginning,” Kurkova exclaims. And what about the design process? “I loved that I was involved in the design process,” she says. “… and didn’t only choose from ten different products that were presented to me. What I liked about the collaboration is that we were thinking about how to change the industry. With all the problems we are experiencing the world right now, sustainability is one of the solutions.” Kurkova is marrying sustainability and style in this functional yet fashionable collection designed for the modern parent.
