What do you do when you are trying to think and create but the needs of your family take precedence? What do you do when there are only 24 hours in the day and each one is accounted for? What do you do when you only have one set of hands but need about 8 to multitask? What do you do when you want to be alone but can’t?

You simply push through. PUSHING THROUGH is an exhibition featuring a selection of artists who are also parents and unites those who share in this journey. The work of a parent artist is complex and invaluable because of the layers of stolen time, stress, inspiration and concentration/condensed production. Each artist in this exhibition embodies a great sense of resilience, resourcefulness and creativity.

The show has been curated by Dominique Gallery, a virtual and storefront gallery located at 5654 West Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, home to a growing community of artists and art spaces. Launched in 2015 as the Studio Gallery Center, the space evolved with the needs of the owner and the community and intentionally focuses on emerging artists of color and women.

PUSHING THROUGH is the second exhibition presented this year after an unprecedented year navigating the global pandemic and social uprisings in response to ongoing battles over police violence and racial inequity. Dominique Gallery salutes all artists for pushing through these difficult times and hopes that audiences will connect with their stories and support their practices.
