The Base Project is a socially-motivated fashion brand building a bridge between artisans in the developing world and the US fashion market. The Base Project partners with local artisans, commissioning locally-sourced, eco-friendly product at fair trade wages; providing basic business education to create self-sustaining enterprises that benefit the surrounding community. Additionally, they invest a portion of profits from every purchase into community development projects. So you can wear your impact!

Their first project is a collection of 14 upcycled hand-carved unisex bracelets. Discarded plastic pipe is collected, hand cut and carved by local artisans from Northern Namibia’s semi-nomadic tribes. The aesthetic is comparable to bone or horn, but no animals are harmed to create this jewelry. The plastic pipe’s unique pigmentation, a combined result of sun bleaching and exposure to deep red ochre-tinted soil, gives the bracelets their distinctly natural look. Inspiration for the designs come from the wildlife, landscape, and rich history across the Kunene region.

The Base Project focuses on the basics: providing artisans in the developing world with basic, self sustaining business skills. The funds are invested back into the community aim to meet the basic needs of food, shelter, education, and health care. We are obsessed with The Base Project because not only are they bringing this incredible and beautiful vegan jewelry to the US market but helping to bring awareness to the nomadic tribes of Namibia. Wear your impact!
