It’s Eczema Awareness Month & We Are Obsessed with WaterWipes

| October 7, 2020

October is Eczema Awareness Month and nearly 3 million people annually in the United States suffer from Atopic dermatitis (Eczema). Its is a common skin condition that affects people of all ages, including babies however, it usually develops in early childhood. It shows up as a rash that typically appears on the arms and behind the knees, cheeks and can appear everywhere. Eczema can cause great discomfort due to itching and oozing skin. You can rehydrate dry skin by drinking plenty of water, moisturizing well, particularly after showering, and running a humidifier.

Treatment options include dietary changes, avoiding soap and other common irritants. This is why chemical-free WaterWipes are a great option for those with flare ups and they are a brand that we truly love for both adults and babies. WaterWipes are a sensitive baby wipe product that’s trusted among physicians and care providers alike. WaterWipes has been awarded the National Eczema Association of America’s seal of acceptance, so not only are they safe for babies, these wipes are safe for folks with allergies and sensitive skin.

Even people who don’t suffer from Eczema find that their skin may get dry during the harsh winter months. Black people suffer from Eczema more than other ethnicities due to the tendency of skin to be dry and common food allergens, like dairy, that contribute to eczema flare up. For babies that may have diaper rash, thrush or Eczema, Water Wipes are great to use because they don’t contain alcohol, fragrances or anything that would inflame their tender skin.

I keep WaterWipes in the bathroom and use them for everything, including makeup removal and intimate wipes. I pack them in a Zip-lock for travel use while on the go, particularly to wipe my hands clean. They are also great to refrigerate and use on your skin to cool it after a day of long sun exposure. As a doula I am always searching for the best products for my clients and have enjoyed sharing WaterWipes as my go-to baby wipe for new parents. I keep them in my doula bag at the ready for my client visits and bring them to births as well. I find there are so many uses that make them versatile and when we are caring for newborn skin, we are talking about sensitive skin. Newborns deserve the best and when it comes to ingredients, they deserve the least – the least amount of ingredients in their products.

WaterWipes can be purchased at Walmart.

 My Top 3 WaterWipes Hacks:

Aroma-Wipes

Place a few wipes in a container or baggie, add 3 drops of an essential oil or blend of your choice, seal the container and refrigerate. Use one of your cool aromatherapy wipes to wipe down your face, neck and refresh after a workout, a walk outside, or to wind down for the evening.

Moisturizing Make-up Remover

Take a 1/2 teaspoon of melted coconut oil into a small bowl, dip the WaterWipe into the coconut oil and wipe your face clean of makeup, particularly the stubborn areas, like eyeliner or mascara around the eye lids. The coconut oil will assist in makeup removal while also providing moisture. Follow with your normal face washing routine.

Leg Lifter Treatment

Take two – four WaterWipes and sprinkle a few drops of peppermint oil on them. Elevate tired, heavy sore or swollen legs and feet, and wipe down the legs and feet and wrap the wipes around the legs and let rest for 10-20 minutes for soothing relief. This is great for late pregnancy!
