The let down is a primal function that signals love and protection. Long after your children are done nursing and even when they grown if you ever sense they are in danger, your fierce biological drive to protect them will kick in and you may experience the sensation of the let down reflex- no milk will come, but you may feel tingling and warmth in your breasts- the first place your baby came for comfort and nourishment. Talk about a life long love story!

“As I’m writing this, I am 38 Weeks pregnant and I am so thankful that I have been able to find peace in the midst of being pregnant during a global pandemic. It took a lot of effort, a lot of major decisions but I’m thankful that I did the work that needed to be done to feel safe for me and my unborn child leading up to birth.
With this being my second pregnancy, my intention and approach was to be present in the joy of this pregnancy and do all I can to seek a provider that would support my goal to have a VBAC birth. Little did I know that finding a VBAC supportive provider in LA County was not going to be an easy task and that the world as we knew it would be shifting on a very large scale.
During my first pregnancy, in 2016, I dealt with a lot of trauma. My mother passed away from breast cancer during my eighth month of pregnancy and I ended up having an unexpected, traumatic c-section birth. I had to heal and recover from the things I faced during my pregnancy in many ways. I did a lot of hard work and soul searching to be mentally present with my son as a whole, healthy, happy mother. I made it my mission to honor my mother’s legacy by being the best mother I can be, being present with my family, while giving myself grace and compassion every step of the way.” _

TANDEM NURSING. When you have twins you learn to tandem nurse immediately. You find the best positions and develop efficiency. Many mothers want to continue nursing their toddlers when pregnant and when the new baby arrives but believe they won’t be able to produce milk for the new baby.
_
It’s perfectly fine to continue nursing while pregnant. It’s important to stay well hydrated and eat well to manage the demands of pregnancy on the body. When pregnant you may have breast tenderness when nursing so setting limits with your toddler may be an option. There are plenty of nutrients your toddler receives while nursing, the composition of your milk will adjust as your toddler grows. Breastfeeding does stimulate uterine contractions so if you’ve had previous miscarriages it’s important to be mindful of how your body is responding to the frequency you’re nursing.

Breastfeeding provides comfort, nutrition, normal development of the immune system, as well as social and intellectual development, and breastfed toddlers may be less likely to be picky eaters because of the ever-changing flavor of mommy’s milk.
_
When your new baby arrives and your uterus expels the placenta, your body will reset to produce colostrum. The newborn should feed first and on-demand to maximize the consumption of the nutrient-dense, immune-factor-full colostrum. Your toddler will also benefit from colostrum but may have looser stools for a day or two until the milk comes in.
_
Your milk supply will adjust to serve your children’s needs. Breastfeeding for your toddler is about more than sustenance, it’s about bonding, a sense of security & belonging, especially since you will be spending so much time taking care of a new baby. If your toddler is weaned already, you may even find that they take interest in nursing again once the new baby arrives. Keep it up for as long as you and your little ones want to go. Xo @mamaglow

“I’ve been thinking deeply about what it means to raise a care free Black girl.
To unlearn.
To make sure she has the tools.
To trust her.
To listen, deeply.
To speak, intentionally.
To get out of her way.
To knowledge share.
To let her make her own mistakes.
To be patient.
To trust that God is watching over her.
To let her fall and not be too quick to pick her up.
To not shelter.
To not be shocked when I’m on the receiving end of her strong willed personality.
To let her say no.
To know her truths are hers.
To trust my own teachings.
To advocate for her.
To educate her on what boundaries are and then respect her’s.
To know that we both will have dreams for her and her’s is the most important.
To simply let her be.
My thoughts are all over the place with this because she’ll be in such a complex world. Her world will expand outside of our home and as her mom, I won’t always be there.
