Just in time for Mother Day our two favorite Mama Glow Icons, Rebecca Minkoff and Christy Turlington Burns co-hosted a breakfast to celebrate the launch of their co-branded baby bag benefiting Every Mother Counts, Christy Turlington Burns non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for mothers worldwide. The event also unveiled the newest addition, the “Bowie Baby Bag”, co-designed by Rebecca Minkoff and Christy Turlington Burns just in time for Mother’s day.

The Bowie bag, named after Rebecca’s baby girl is available now! 20% of the proceeds from each bag sold will be donated to EMC to support global maternal health efforts and reduce maternal mortality worldwide.

Mama Glow: Why Rebecca Minkoff and EMC? What was the impetus for the collaboration?

Rebecca Minkoff: One woman dies every two minutes as a result of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. As a mother of two, I wanted to raise awareness around this important issue. I am thrilled to be working with Every Mother Counts; together we created this bag to increase awareness around maternal health and how pregnancy and childbirth can be made safe for every mother.

We love that you named the bag after your daughter Bowie. What was the inspiration behind the design?

I wanted to create a bag that was sleek and functional without looking like a traditional diaper bag. The silhouette is one of my most popular shapes, so I wanted to incorporate that as well to give the bag a fresh feel.

What do you hope to achieve with this limited edition bag?

First and foremost I hope to help raise awareness for Every Mother Counts and do my part to improve global maternal health and reduce maternal mortality worldwide. I also wanted to give mothers a stylish baby bag option that feels sophisticated, but practical for everyday use.

Not only is it a great baby bag, but it’s also a great doula bag! What’s one of your favorite features on the bag?

I love the packable nylon fabric because it is easy to clean and wipe inside and out. The stroller straps and changing mat are really handy too!

You’re a huge advocate for natural birth, breastfeeding and doulas. You did the collab with Bravado which helped so many women, can you share a little about that, and do you see yourself doing even more down the line in the maternity lane?

Bravado approached me about incorporating some of my signature designs into their Essential Nursing Tank which I was thrilled about. Together we created a Limited Edition Essential Nursing Tank to benefit Baby Buggy—Jessica Seinfeld’s non-profit that gives families in need essential products and services for children ages 0-12. As far a future collaborations, I am always open! EMC is a perfect example of the perfect opportunity to collaborate and show my support for a great cause.

What do you love about motherhood?

Motherhood is my greatest accomplishment, it’s the most rewarding job and I cherish the family time I have with my husband and two children. The best thing is watching my son and daughter grow and develop their own personalities—it’s such a joy!

What’s in your Bowie bag?

My Ergo carrier with insert, Bravado breastfeeding bras and lots of snacks!
