EWG is the nation’s leading and most effective environmental heath, research, and advocacy organization and we are so proud to have them as one of our partners. Their mission is to conduct original and game-changing research that inspires people, businesses, and governments, to take action to protect human health and the environment.
Guests in attendance included: Kate Waters of Morgan Stanley, Sarina Appel, Grace Lee of Nine Naturals, Erika Rose, Peg Samuels, Angela Holton, Elena Mauer of The Bump, Rachel Goldstein of AOC, and John Marceri of Bundle Organics. Many members of the host committee were in attendance including the following: Laura Turner Seydel, Ted Turner’s daughter and EWG board member, Drena Deniro, Haley Binn, Rachel Ash, Michelle Seelinger, Randi Zinn of Beyond Mom, and Tata Harper herself.
As the rain threatened to come storming down at any minute the cocktail party kept going strong.
The guide breaks down 9 Glow Tips for the 9 months of pregnancy. The following are the 9 key sources of environmental toxins we cover in the guide:
Mercury- Found in fish and seafood
Lead- Primarily found in dust from chipping lead paint in older homes and tap water that runs through lead pipes.
Fragrance- These mystery cocktails can trigger allergic reactions and worse, some are toxic phthalates and endochrine-disrupting chemicals
BPA- Bisphenol A or BPA is an industrial chemical used to make shatter resistant plastic and high performance adhesives and coatings.
Chemicals in food- Such as pesticides and herbicides, Artificial sweeteners, Antibiotics and hormones in meat and dairy
Harmful cleaning ingredients– Household cleaners, laundry products and air fresheners contain chemical ingredients that can harm fetal development
Toxic cosmetic ingredients- When you are pregnant the products you use matter more than ever.
Water contaminants- Such as lead, arsenic, perchlorate, chlorine, chloramine, nitrates, and nitrites.
Fire retardants- Used in a wide variety of consumer products like polyurethane foam, furniture, mattresses, baby products, and personal electronics.
